Airboard Consulting and Instructor Training

Kevin landing a huge jump
In addition to being a great riverboarder, I have also gotten involved in its winter time counterpart, airboarding.  An airboard is an inflatable sled with runners on the bottom.  In 2010, I was able to convince Cataloochee Ski Area in North Carolina to allow airboarding, and they began offering airboard instruction and put me on as the airboard instructor.

" Airboarding is ideal for anyone who loves the thrill of riverboarding in the summer or who enjoys sledding, but wants to enjoy a faster, more adrenaline filled, and more controlled ride.  It is also great for those that enjoy skiing or snowboarding, but would like to be able to go faster and yet still remain in control, and is a great alternative to sitting inside playing party poker or chess."

As awareness of this activity grows, more people are going to want to try it, and they may want their local ski resort to allow and offer airboarding.  As a ski area manager, how are you going to know if airboarding is right for your mountain and what slopes might be suitable for it; And who is going to train your instructors so that they can teach others how to safely enjoy this amazing sport?  I'm offering my services as a traveling consultant and instructor trainer.

What I expect to be provided  (In addition to my fees) :

Travel Expenses.  If within a 4 hour drive of Asheville, NC, then I am willing to drive, otherwise I will need to fly.

Local Travel from airport to ski area and back.  You can either have me picked up or offer to cover the cost of a rental car for myself.

Lodging.  You can put me up in ski area lodging if the resort also has lodging, or provide for a motel room.

Meals.  Comping my meals at your ski resort's restaurants.

The Program.  2-3 days estimated.

First I go down all of your slopes to determine the areas that are suitable and what slopes should be off limits to airboarding.  Then I meet with key personnel to reveal my findings and make my recommendations so that you can make those decisions.  Finally I train instructors how to airboard and how to teach airboarding.

I am comfortable either teaching a few head instructors so that they can teach others, or training a group of up to 10 instructors.  Obviously, your ski area will need to have already decided to go with airboarding and purchased your boards so that I can train your instructors, or at the very least purchased one board for your head instructor to use before I can do instructor training.  If you are on the fence about offering airboarding or not, then I can always come to consult for a day or two, then come back at a later date to provide training for your instructors.  I offered a discounted rate to do consulting and instructor training on the same trip because it results in less travel days for me, but I am always glad to do instructor training on a separate trip or return in future years to train new instructors.
